Icon Rocklear Post Application Instructions & Care Guide
Keeping your vehicle’s newly installed Icon Rocklear coating in tip-top shape is simple.
The complete curing process for Icon Rocklear automotive coating takes around one month – this period is the also most vulnerable time for the coating.
Following these simple instructions will ensure its longevity and shine.
Aftercare
Proper maintenance is critical to the integrity of the coating as well as the warranty offered. Using proper wash methods on a regular basis is required to maintain the coating’s visual appearance, integrity and longevity. Improper care can void the warranty.
The First 30 Days
Icon Rocklear is fully cured in a minimum of 30 days. Therefore:
- Be extremely careful not to touch the surface of the coating for 30 days, as even light touch may cause swirls or marring to the coatings finish before it fully hardens;
- Do not apply pressure or rub the surface of the coating;
- Do not wash the vehicle for a minimum of 14 days after application;
- Touch-less washing may be done after 14 days;
- No waxes or polishes during the first 30 days;
- Keep away from contaminants such as, but not limited to: fuel, brake cleaner, airborne gases, welders, etc., for 7 days after application.
After 30 Days
- Avoiding the use of “spinning brush” car washes and other contaminated wash mitts and brushes will help to minimize future swirling and other wash damage;
- Regularly using proper wash methods will help to minimize wash damage;
- Regularly using a ceramic spray after each wash will keep the surface easier to clean;
- Regular deep cleaning at an Icon Rocklear Certified Shop will help to keep your coated vehicles’ finish in the best possible condition.
- If damage (swirls, scratches, etc) does occur to your coated paint, it will need to come to an Icon Rocklear Certified Shop for polishing or scratch repair. Use of a non-certified shop to repair or polish will VOID the Icon Rocklear warranty.
Curing Period: First Month
- The coating takes about a month to fully cure, but you can drive the vehicle during the curing process. The coating cures no matter the temperature (0° F or 120° F).
- During the first 7 days: Keep it dry. The first 7 days are crucial; avoid washing or letting it get wet (light rain is okay).
- During the first 7 days: Avoid exposing the coating to contaminants like fuel, brake cleaner, or airborne gases.
- After the first 14 days: You can use touchless car washes after the first 14 days.
- During the first 30 days: Avoid touching the coated surfaces, especially hard rubbing or applying pressure on the coated surfaces.
- During the first 30 days: Be careful – the coating is tough but can still scratch with improper washing and drying during the curing period. Handle with extreme care when washing and drying the coating.
- During the first 30 days: Avoid using any polishes, waxes, sealants, polymers, or spray-on coatings. They’re not necessary with Icon Rocklear. If you really want to apply one of these, you can do so after the first 30 days.
Cleaning & Maintenance:
- Never use automatic car washes, spinning brush car washes, mitt automatic car washes, touch car washes, or regular car wash brushes; they can scratch the coating if they have debris, tar, etc stuck in the brushes. We recommend this regardless of whether you have Icon Rocklear or not.
- You can use wand washes (pressure washing) and hand washes / details after the first 30 days.
The Guarantee:
- Icon Rocklear’s 15-year guarantee on a single layer
- Our lifetime guarantee on workmanship.
- The guarantee is void if anyone other than a certified Icon Rocklear dealer works on the coating.
