Ceramic Coatings – Why You Need It

ceramic coating

why do you need a ceramic coating for your car?

Ceramic coatings are neither a sealant or a wax, rather it’s a nano-ceramic coating that forms an invisible ceramic shield with the surface of the vehicle’s paint. Only able to be removed by abrasion, this unique highly advanced formula protects your paint.

Easier Cleaning

The primary reason for ceramic coatings is to make your vehicles surfaces easier to clean.

If maintained properly, dirt and debris will not stick well to your paint, minimizing the time and effort needed to get that shine back.

Minor Protection

Ceramic coatings can help to protect from etching caused by bug guts, bird droppings, and other contaminates.

However, Swirl and Scratch protection are better left to Clearbra or Icon Rocklear coatings

Looking for Scratch Protection?

Ceramic is just too thin to protect from actual damage. PPF or Icon Rocklear is what you need.

Required Maintenance

Its very important to understand the maintenance required with a professional ceramic coating application.  Each manufacturer will have its own guidelines that will need to be followed, otherwise, less than ideal results will show up.

Most ceramic coatings are a silica, or titanium oxide based product that will eventually wear down as you drive and wash your vehicle. This is where proper washing and maintenance product are key to a long lasting coating.

By regular use of a maintenance sprays, your coating will stay hydrophobic, rejecting contaminants.

Most ceramic manufactures REQUIRE annual maintenance by a professional certified shop which includes refreshing the “top coat” of the ceramic coating, in order to keep it effective. Annual maintenance typically involves a full decontaminating wash and re-coat of the ceramic, and costs are typically $150-$350.

Types of Ceramic Coating

9H Coatings

9H coatings form a permanent bond with the surface and will not wash off or break down easily with proper washing. It cures to a glass like consistency, super slick, which assists in the hydrophobic effect. The term 9H refers to the hardness of the coating once cured.

  • Above 9H Hardness (pencil scale)
  • Super Hydrophobic Effect
  • Weather & UV Resistance
  • Thermal Resistance (up to 1200°C)
  • Anti-Graffiti
  • Advanced Chemical Resistance
  • Oxidation & Corrosion Resistant
  • High Gloss Finish

Si02 Coatings

Si02 (silica dioxide) is the chemical makeup of most super hydrophobic coatings. The Si02 makes the surface stay cleaner longer as dirt and grime will not stick to it. The super hydrophobic effect of the ceramic coating will cause water to bead up and roll of the surface along with any dirt and grime.

Though not as durable as 9H, it can also be applied on its own, and often used as a topper or maintenance coating.

  • Super Hydrophobic Effect
  • Weather & UV Resistance
  • Anti-Graffiti
  • Advanced Chemical Resistance
  • Oxidation Resistant
  • High Gloss Finish

Industrial Coating

Titanium dioxide (Ti02) coatings such as Ceramic Pros “Strong” is a great industrial product and will work great on painted or non-painted surfaces where protection is more important than flawless finish. Strong has similar characteristics to 9H but creates a much thicker layer once applied, because it is not typically leveled off.

  • 9H Hardness (pencil scale)
  • Super Hydrophobic Effect
  • Weather & UV Resistance
  • Thermal Resistance (up to 1200°C)
  • Anti-Graffiti
  • Advanced Chemical Resistance
  • Oxidation & Corrosion Resistant
  • High Gloss Finish

Interior Coatings

Interior coatings a specifically formulated for interior finishes like leather, vinyl or cloth. They work great to help the finish to be more resistant to staining and wear.  If you have ever had staining in your leather seats, try this coating to keep your seats fresh.

  • Super Hydrophobic Effect
  • Weather & UV Resistance
  • Fading Resistance
  • Stain Resistance
  • Lasts up to 2 years
